Voices IV
This was a very entertaining experience. The monologue that hit me the most was the one about cancer. When the presenter started to cry at a monologue that was not even hers, I felt sympathy. The ignorant kids sitting behind me were laughing at them so I told them to quiet down. I am glad that I came to this performance. It was a great alternative opposed to standing outside in the rain.

DA MUSEUM!!
My favorite part of the museum would definitely have to be the shrine where you pray. The atmosphere was very spiritual and relaxing. This is a nice place to take a nap. I am not big on religion, but if I was this would be a nice place to pray in. The dark and welcoming vibe that the shrine gave out was very unique. I respect Buddhism because it deals with nature and reaching nirvana. Buddhism is a very interesting religion because it has completely different ideals opposed to the big three monotheistic religions. Who knows maybe I’ll go Buddhist like Steve Jobs.

money management
This presentation was no different from the many presentations that I have seen that dealt with credit cards and money management. The presenter had a lot of energy and appeal. I believe that most people in the audience should have paid more attention because they really need to know this information. I know most of this because I researched it. As I have said before, this is not my first money management presentation. I do not not manage my money that well because I spend way more than I should. I have tried budgeting just for fun, but that did not work out. I do not own a credit card yet because I do not see any use for it at the moment. Later in my life I would definitely get a credit card, maybe an American Express Black Card.

monologue
Today I am 19. I look back at my life and realize that its crazy how I am a teenager who lives in Brooklyn, New York. How did I end up here? Why? Whats my point in life? Do I have a purpose? I believe that your life is what you make it. You choose your purpose . I am lucky because I live in a city full of opportunities. I do not believe that destiny or faith brought me here. Only weak people believe in destiny and faith as they rely on these concepts to explain their lives. I believe that the surroundings that you were brought up in along with your decisions shape up your life.
Personally my goal in life is to become someone. By this I mean that I want to be somebody that is important and not just some other average Joe. I feel like being someone of a higher status in this society permits a more interesting life. You have more independence and respect. Money does buy happiness. Only people with no money say that money does not buy happiness because that’s their excuse for not having it. They try to make themselves feel better by saying this. I would much rather cry in a BMW opposed to crying in a bike. I am very materialistic, so making a lot of money is a must. I like the finer things in life. It would be disappointing if I do not obtain these luxuries, but I will try my best. That’s all I could ask for. If it doesn’t work out, whatever I’ll find some other hobby. For now making money seems very interesting.
I am a friendly guy, but if I do not like you I will show it right away. I am very straightforward. The only time I’ll be nice to someone I hate is if I need something from them. This could include a manager or boss that I hate but have to be nice to in order to get paid. I know this is not a very nice way to act, but hey that’s how the world works. Everyone uses each other to get what they want.

Light The Night
This walk was very interesting. I do not really take part in community service because I am either to lazy or I honestly do not care; however, this walk was not as bad as I expected it to be. I feel like I made a small contribution by partaking in a walk that helps out a great cause. In the near future I will try to partake in more community service in order to give back to the community.

A Time To Serve
Our government has greatly changed since the framers implemented it back in colonial times. The framers felt that the federal government should have much less power than it does today, and they believed that the states should have more power than they have today. In today’s society the federal government, I believe, has way too much power. I believe that the federal government should not interfere in the economy at all. I believe in a true free market in which the government should not play any role in. This mainly started with the new deal when the government wanted to fix the great depression by creating countless programs that would give the government more control. Also we should not go into any foreign country when we can’t even take care of ourselves. Citizens have lost lot of trust for their government recently because of the economic crisis along with the ongoing war on terror.
The plan that this article mentions is unnecessary. This would give the government even more control in our lives. Why would they need to invest money in American born babies? They should not worry about this at all. This plan is horrible and idealistic. It is not horrible because it is idealistic, but it is horrible because it gives the government control in areas that it should not have any control in. I think the federal government that exists today has too much power, and by implementing this plan it would give it even more power. The states should deal with educational and medical issues. This article also mentions how most fourth graders can not read at the basic reading level. This is due to the media and the lack of parental supervision over their children’s studies. You should not blame the schools you need to blame the kids along with their parents. Mainly the kids, especially the ones in high school and college who are old enough to realize that their education is solely based on their own habits. People need to stop blaming others and need to take control of their lives in their own hands.

About me?
Hey my name is Ilya Avshalumov. I characterize myself as friendly and outgoing. I love to have a good time by joking around and sometimes partaking in stupid pranks that I am not proud of; however, when it is time to be serious I do not joke around I as take my obligations very seriously. Also, I enjoy spending time with my friends and family. I love to go out to nice restaurants, café’s, lounges, and other places that interest me. I enjoy socializing with others as it gives me a greater understanding of the people around me.
I moved to America when I was five years old from Moscow, Russia. When I arrived at O’Hare International airport in Chicago my life would never be the same. Moving to the United States, in my opinion, was one of the smartest decisions that my parents ever made. I lived in a suburb in Chicago for 10 years before my parents decided to relocate to Brooklyn, New York. When I moved from Chicago to Brooklyn I was very depressed. I left a lot of friends and family back in Chicago that I had grew up with for almost ten years. Brooklyn was very dirty and loud opposed to the quiet suburban lifestyle that I had grew comfortable with in Chicago. Brooklyn was very diverse and hectic causing me to feel uncomfortable. At the age of 15 I hated New York, as I could not relate to it at all. Fortunately, as time progressed, I would grow very fond of New York as I started to get used to it more and more. Looking at my life now I would not want to live anywhere else because of the friends that I have made and the future that I am striving for.
Currently I am a freshman at Baruch College and I am very lazy. I need to adapt to a new regime by going to sleep earlier and by studying on time. This laziness is largely due to the disease known as “senioritis” which is very deadly and contagious. I will try my best to succeed in Baruch in order to build a bridge for my future, as I am becoming a young man with more responsibilities.
