They say its nothing compared to central park, but its still pretty big

They say Prospect Park is small compared to Central Park, but it is still huge as hell. Sweeping leaves; sounds easy right? Not at all. Too many roads and to many trees and to top it off  it was chilly that day. On the bright side I got a free bagel and hot chocolate, but I had to work for it. First off I had to carry both a broom and a shovel, which was annoying. Secondly every few minutes I had to switch from broom to shovel because I had to dump all the leaves gathered off the road and onto the dirt. Despite the annoyance of carrying the shovel and broom and having to switch between the two, the paths I had cleaned look nice. Who knew that removing a bunch of leaves and twigs would make a difference. And with the rest of the people helping out we cleaned a bunch of paths. I may have went to that park on that chilly day just so I can have something to write about but I may come back in the future. After all free bagels with cream cheese is what its all about. Well that and helping to make the park a better place is a motivation to go. But its mainly for the free bagels and drinks.

workshop #3

Had it not been for this class I probably wouldn’t have gone to a single workshop. I went to the resume workshop which was actually helpful. The workshop stressed the importance of resumes and supplied a bunch of samples of what to write and what not to write. On the down side they kept on stressing about how so many people can make simple mistakes. I know resumes aren’t easy, but the instructors made them look like that they are almost impossible to make. In my opinion if you know the format and stick to it, then there is nothing to worry about. Yet going to the workshop makes me think that there is something to worry about………. Well at the very least, since I attended the resume workshop, I can now get any resumes I write to be reviewed and corrected.

The first step is almost over

The first semester is almost over, and it was exhausting. Too many quizzes from history and too many essays for English. Not to mention that ethics made me sleepy. Music is just plain stupid and a waste of my time and anthropology has way to many complicated words. Have I learned anything? Well I guess I learned a bunch of complicated words from anthropology and that ethics is only fun when you debate over issues and not when you discuss what “important” philosophers have to say about a certain issue. Apart from not enjoying classes I haven’t accomplished much this first semester. I haven’t joined any clubs and I haven’t been using my breaks effectively. Just as I have stated before in the last blog all I have been doing is playing foosball, table tennis, and occasionally some handball. Due to my laziness in the first semester I have promised myself to join a club next semester and to use my break time for more effective things like studying. The only thing I gained from this first semester is that I have improved my foosball skills greatly. So I invite anyone to come to the game room and play me during your free time, and make sure your prepared to lose =). Although the first semester may be over, there is still a long road ahead, so it is best to head on to the future prepared.

what are we talking about?

My name is Intesar Ahmed, I was born on May 6th 1993 and I live in Brooklyn. Hmmm. This is sounding more like an autobiography, any who; it has been an interesting one month in Baruch. No more teachers getting on your case because you are not showing up to class or that you are not doing well. More freedom and less written assignments, we have been given more control. But the question is what have I been doing with this new found freedom? Fooling around of course. Instead of studying or catching up on the reading that I didn’t do or even read stuff in advance, I have been spending most of the time in the game room. I suck at table tennis and the pool table is occupied all the time so I have been playing foosball every day during most of my breaks (and I still suck). In conclusion I hope to change myself and work harder and I hope college will help with this task and possibly I wish to also get better at foosball.

an impossible question

Who am I? That is indeed a good question. Can a person even be defined in words? Well instead of just avoiding this question I might as well take a crack at it. I’m a son, a brother, a friend, an enemy, a student, etc. Is that enough for someone to know who I am? Probably not. Allow me to expand, my name is Intesar (yes, it is practically impossible to pronounce correctly the first time around) I”m 18 and I’ve lived in Brooklyn my whole life. I’m a good friend (or I like to think so) and an attentive listener (that is if you have anything of value to say). I’m a usually quiet person and kind of moody. If you try to talk to me in the early morning you probably won’t get a verbal response from me, just hand gestures and nods (I don’t mean to be rude, I’m just not a morning person). I guess the solution to this predicament would be that I should drink coffee, or at least some intake of caffeine. As shocking as this may sound I don’t drink coffee. One might ask as a response to that, how do you plan on surviving college? How can you go through a day of class after a sleepless night working on a paper?  To answer your question those questions is that I’ve managed to get through sleepless nights in high school with out caffeine, so it shouldn’t be to difficult in college right? Who knows maybe this will be one of the changes I’ll go through in college, I might have to start relying on coffee.

College is definitely different from high school. Many of my high school teachers would say over and over that college professors won’t spoon feed you, they were right. In College students are more independent, we are given more responsibility and freedom. There is an intense amount of reading but less writing assignments, we are given the due dates of all of our assignments in advance. In high school we were given the dates of assignments a month ahead at best. I think College will definitely challenge me more than high school, I’m definitely going to have to study more instead of fooling around during my breaks, it seems to me that playtime (high school) is over, its time to get serious and act like responsible adults.
