community service
I joined the key club in freshmen year of high school. With key club, I did a lot of community service including walking in many walks such as walk to cure diabetes, aids walk, breast cancer walk, etc, packing books to ship to Africa, volunteering at soup kitchens, etc. My most memorable walk is the aids walk. The aids walk is the longest walk i ever walked. Its approximately 5 miles and it took me around 4 hours to complete. SO far i’ve been to 3 aids walk, one every year for the past 3 years. The first time i’ve been at the aids walk was when i was a sophomore and i just went because i wanted club credits, but after walking the 5 mile walk, i felt like i was actually helping somebody. By simply walking, doesnt have to be fast, money is donated to help the many people suffering aids fight aids. Instead of wasting a sunday on the internet, on facebook, tumblr, youtube, etc, i spent it productively by walking. And when i walked, people donate money.

This semester went by so quickly. I remember the first day of college, wondering how it would be, if i could handle college, etc. Now the first semester is almost over before i know it. My experience at Baruch was great. I met new people and made some good friends in this block. I was able to meet different people with different backgrounds in this block. This semester went by pretty well, except that it still feels like high school since i have to commute everyday. However, in one semester of college, i got used to college and can say i am more independent now. Originally, I was so scared that i wouldnt be able to handle college because people told me that college is crazy, there is a lot of work, and you really have to be independent. But after finishing this semester, i learned that college isnt actually that bad. As long as you can managae your time and workloads and be independent, everything will be fine. I’m doing pretty well in my classes and I’m happy that i am. I was afraid i would slack off and scared that i wouldnt get used to this transistion from high schoo to college, but now i can say college isnt bad; it’s pretty good. I like baruch Also, i really like the fact that baruch helps freshmens set up schedules for the first semester. This way, i was able to make a lot of new friends, which i was scared i wouldnt been able to do, get a good grade, have free time for friends, and still be able to work in a part time job. The only thing that i wioshed i was able to do is join a club. Although, i havent done it yet this semester, i can always do it next semester.

I always wanted to dorm in college. Always as in when i was 7, 13 and even now 18. Why? Because i want to get away from my parents. I love them and all, but seriously some times i just want that independence. Its annoying hearing somebody to tell you to eat dinner, do your homework, and go to sleep every single day. Mom, I’m 18 i dont need someone to tell me to go to sleep. But reality is reality -dorming isn’t the most important thing in college — getting a good education in a good school is the most important thing. As lame as it sounds, its true. And thats how i ended up baruch. no campus whatsoever. But thats not the point– the point is that i want to major in either finance or accounting and Baruch has a really good business school. Thats part of the reason why i chose to come to Baruch. The other part is that i really dont wanna do myown laundry and eat ramen everyday. and now i know that i didnt make a wrong decision. i’m really enjoying my first semester here.

who do you think you are?
I am Judy Ling. Who am I? Well, my name, more like the names my friends call me, reflect my personality. My friends call me Ling Ling, Ju ju or Judieee, JJ, etc. They call me Ling Ling for obvious reasons, because my last name is Ling. Ling Ling is also the name of a well known panda in China. Conicidently, my favorite animal is panda and I am a Chinese American. Ju ju when translated into cantonese, the language i speak, means pig pig. No i am not a pig, but I really love eating and sleeping, which pigs love to do, and I’m also kind of slow. Somebody could say a joke and i could be the only one not laughing because i dont get it. Then somebody would explain it to me and then i would be the only one laughhing. Oh wells, that’s life. Also, when people have names with two of the same words, i think it kind of emphasize them being the little one. And i am the little one. I’m the youngest in my family and I’m my mom’s baby girl and she spoils me. Besides that, I am also very caring, a good listener, and friendly.
My top 3 concerns about my freshmen year at Baruch is getting good grades, making new friends, and keeping in touch with my old friends because college is about getting good grades, I’m scared about being a loner, and alot of my close friends moved away for college.
Honestly, Baruch is very similar to Brooklyn Tech. Both school’s have a lot of students, there’s majors in both schools, I commute to go to both of them, etc. I would say the only difference is that Baruch is making me independent while i was still kind of dependent in high school. After all, I am a college student and i wouldnt want a teacher telling me to do this do that all the time.
I kind of mentioned this already but i think first year of college will make me more independent.
