a) I guess Baruch matched my expectations. I mean, I thought there would be less immature people, but half the population is just freshman and sophomores so I guess we have a lot of growing up to do. I also didn’t expect the sports team to be very popular and I was confused when people wondered if there was a Baruch football team. Academically, I knew college was going to be harder and more study time and that’s what it is. To be honest, it would have been much easier if I didn’t have gpa killers for professors.

b) The first semester actually went better than I thought it would be. I joined a club, and plus we have a block so it was easier to make friends. Of course we all didn’t talk to each other until halfway there but it was a great experience for a non learning community block. With grades, it so-so. i have easy approachable professors, then I have boring professors, then I have one that takes away points for everything that’s not word for word but it all balances out. I also was able to pick a good schedule for next semester so I am happy about that.

c) One thing I would do differently was study more at the beginning of the semester. Those were the easiest test/exams but I kinda slacked off because of the transition. I wouldn’t though change the block or any of my classes and keep them the same. I would have also used the gym and the library earlier because I didn’t even try to go in the beginning.

d) I think I have definitely changed as a person since I started Baruch. I tried my best to approach jobs and internships as well as use Baruch’s resources. Ive also studied way more than in high school, because in high school I didn’t do much and I could match other students who studied more. And also, time management is a big issue, its very important so you know you wont miss anything.

My Monologue

Who am I?

I am a Freshman at Baruch College

I was born on December 17, 1993

And I’ve learned plenty in the last two months

Who am I?

I’ve learned more about myself during the past two months

Time management and doing homework are big now

But more importantly I’ve learned that I’ve taken a new step

Toward reaching my goals

I’ve also overcome many obstacles

Stage fright, nervousness are still a problem

But I have more experience now

Getting good grades are an obstacle

Something I have to overcome

College has also taught me many life lessons

For instance, I learned that professors can be weird too

And they can also be jerks when it comes to tests

And I’ve also learned that writing a monologue can be so stressful

But its all good

The next four years will be hard on me

But I guess I’m more prepared now

Can’t wait till next semester

Cause I don’t have to take Freshman Seminar

Who am I

Who am I? I am currently a freshman at Baruch College. I was a procrastinator and lazy person, but I am trying to change all of that now. I am pretty much the normal 17 year old guy. But what makes me different? First of all, I am not the mainstream music person, although I do listen to some top 100 songs. I’m a person that laughs a lot, even at the most random things. However I can be a very hard worker and I am trying to excel while I go through 4 years of college.

Um, one of my concerns in college is time management. I only take one train here, but I do have to walk from my house to the train station and from 6th Ave to Lexington. And since I am not a New Yorker, I noticed that I walk really slow. So I have to leave early, especially on Wednesdays and Fridays and buy my breakfast and make it before 9. Also, I have to keep track with homework. Without a planner, I end up forgetting everything and missing the most important stuff. My last concern is finding some good place to eat and something to do on Tuesdays because there is no such thing as a dollar menu in New York and sometimes I have nothing to do for 3 hours on my break.

High School is very different from College. In high school, i had different classes with different people, but now in college I have blocks with the same people. I don’t mind, because I think that its Baruch’s way of telling you to join a club or sport as a way of making new friends, and keeping your block friends so you have someone to help you as they have many classes with you. Lastly, in high school, people weren’t half as smart as the people in Baruch, and now in Baruch I have people that know how to argue and think before they speak.(For most people in Baruch LOL)

College will change me because in high school I barely was active in school and did almost nothing. Now in college, i joined a club and studied more, and I know my way through New York. As the 4 years pass, I will try to become a better, smarter, hard-working person.
