Voices
Today we went to Mason Hall to watch the selected monologues get preformed. 90 were selected but roughly 20 were preformed. Out of the 20 that were performed 3 of them had been about either a student personally going through cancer or having their parent go through it. It was the most heartbreaking thing I have ever heard. Walking into Voices, I thought it would be a waste of time. It started off relatively bland and as the stories went on they got more and more personal. One story in particular made me cry. It was very inspiring to see my own peers open up in their writing and give us something that isn’t generic but something that is raw…something that is heartbreaking…something that is the truth.

Occupy Wall Street thoughts?
Hey class,
The past two months have been filled with constant media coverage of Occupy Wall Street. Tommorow is the infamous day of action. According to the news, occupiers will have quite the impact on the city tomorrow. They are going to be not only occupying Wall Street but 16 subway stations, the Brooklyn bridge, and City Hall. What are your thoughts? Post pictures of protestors? Have you protested?

October
About a month has passed since my first blog. I talked about my concerns with adapting to college and the overall new environment that comes with it. So far my experience has been relatively positive. I’ve been able to set up a schedule that allows me to finish all my school work and still have some “me” time. Since my last post I’ve had three papers due, a few pop quizzes, planned quizzes, a speech presentation and a test. I realized that college is essentially what you make of it. The amount of work you put in is essentially what you get out. I’ve been generally pleased with my results so far and hope to continue the trend. I’ve also joined a club on campus called AISEC. I will be taking my first leadership position within the next week by being an XPM( experience manager) to other members. It is a little nerve racking because the members are all older and have been in the club for two semesters already but I’m excited for the experience and to challenge myself. Hope everyone is enjoying themselves as well.

Who Am I?
a. Tell us who you think YOU are!
This is a very interesting question because most times we are busy judging others that we don’t really take a step back and judge ourselves. For starters I’m a daughter, a granddaughter, a sister, a friend, and a student. Besides the obvious things I’m also a bookworm, a “know-it-all”, a listener, a dreamer, and an achiever.
b. Share your top 3 concerns about your freshman year at Baruch College and explain why.
- Getting good grades- This is my biggest concern. I tend to focus on the future and know in order to achieve what I want average won’t cut it.
- Making friends. – I know that college isn’t all about grades but also about making everlasting friendships
- Keeping up with the work load.- Since college is a lot more demanding than high school I worry that I will fall behind.
c. So far, what do you think will make your Baruch College experience different from your high school experience?
I think getting involved and spending more time will make my Baruch College experience different than my high school experience.
d. How do you think your first year at College will change you?
I think it’ll make me more organized and better prepared for the years of schooling that lie ahead of me.
