Post Number 3

So far, Baruch College has exceeded my expectations. I honestly though I would have such a heavy workload that I wouldn’t have any social time, but Ive actually been able to balance my schoolwork and social life . I like the classes, and Im happy with all my teachers and classmates. i especially love the freedom of college, and being able to do whatever I please. I can just walk out of class easily and go get a cup of coffee and come back.

I think my first semester at Baruch went really well. I actually have been getting really good grades, and Im happy with how Im doing in school, and I think its motivation for next semester. Even though it took a lot of studying and getting used to, the adjustment was an overall pleasant experience.

The only thing I would have done differently my first semester would have probably been picking my schedule. Even though I wouldn’t of had a choice either way, the excruciating two and half hour break 2 days a week was really annoying. If I had to have done anything differently it would have been to have my classes with as little breaks as possible.

I think one way Ive changed ever since Ive started Baruch was definitely my maturity level. High School and College are so different. There two completely different ballparks, and I think the adjustment really made me mature and see myself as an adult. I was forced to have my own responsibilities and not rely on others. I think thats one of the benefits with college. You kind of discover yourself and learn to rely on no one else but yourself.

Overall my first semester was a great one, and I look forward to the many semesters I have left. Im really anticipating getting my degree and graduating as soon as I can.

Dear Mr. McCaffrey

Dear Professor McCaffrey,

I am very sorry for being unable to attend the midterm exam. Due to a severe illness, I was unable to attend the midterm, and I am truly sorry for any inconvenience. I do have a signed doctors note, to show proof of illness. I can forward it to you by email, or simply hand it in the next class. I will be able to makeup the midterm at any time it is convenient for you. Thank you for your time and patience.

Best Regards,

Selin Celebi

Monologue

Ever since I was a little girl, my parents always wished I would one day be an olympic athlete and so they tried to enroll me in every single sport possible, ranging from basketball all the way to soccer. I hated sports, and especially sweating. I never wanted to do anything with sports, and I had a fear of being injured. I always had a love for fashion, and dressing up made me so happy. I knew I always wanted to pursue fashion the minute I made a dress out of my soccer jersey during a soccer game. Fashion always interested me, I had several people in my family who made careers for themselves in the fashion industry. I wanted to be just like that. I wanted to create something in my mind, that would fascinate people, and would make them want to buy my items.

With lots of dreaming and high hopes, my mom one day enrolled me in ballroom dancing class. This was probably one of the only sports I absolutely loved, because I would wear outfits covered in rhinestones and would get to compete in grand ballrooms, like the roseland ballroom in New York City. Though dancing, I  grew an intrest for this sport, and supported my teacher through the time she was on Dancing with The Stars.

Recently, I was watching Dancing With the Stars, and ran into a segment were they announced there was a contest, where you would have to design a dance costume and if you were chosen you would get to fly to california and be featured on the show with the dress you created. I immediately thought this was absolutely the best idea Ive ever heard of. I didn’t have much time, so I grabbed my pen and paper and drew something off the top of my head. Six hours later, my masterpiece was complete.

I dont think these next few days could go by any slower, while waiting for the results. Im really excited and hopeful that I will win.  Eve if I dont win, I put in my best effort, and achieved a personal goal I put my mind too. I think having a mindset like this will give me a successful start on my future fashion career. However, if I do get picked as a finalist I hope you all vote for me !

I think I am a very well rounded individual. I think Im unique in my own ways, and Im very competitive when it comes to a challenge. I enjoy being pushed to my limits because then I feel like I always tried my best and thats all that matters. Im also a very fun person and I love to explore new things, and travel to new places and find out new things about myself all the time.

My top three concerns about my freshman year at Baruch would be time management, studying, and being able to keep my social life. I think time management is my main concern because everything else ties into that. I was never an organized person before college, but I think college is somewhat making me become an organized person. Its important that I manage my time accordingly, and I get all my work done on time so that I can have a social life outside of school. Studying is also another concern, because I really despise studying, but I’m somewhat forced to study now that Im in college and the work is a a lot more than in high school. My social life is my last concern because I think its really important that you have a good balance between work and leisure, so that your never too overwhelmed. I think having a social life balances everything out because its your free time to just get away from school and forget all the things you have to do for a couple of hours.

The one thing that makes the Baruch College experience different from High School is the freedom. I think in college you have a lot more freedom to do whatever you want. You have a lot more options to make choices on your own, and you don’t have teachers constantly bugging you to get things done, its all your own responsibility. I think having this freedom makes life a lot easier. You get to finally be an adult and do things on your own and make your own choices.

I think my first year in college will help me mature and take on my own responsibilities. I think it will help me “grow up” into an adult, and learn how to do things on my own, and realize that someone isn’t always going to be there to remind me that I have to do certain things. Its all my own responsibility now, and its up to me to get things done.  I think my first year here will change me in many ways, but all for the better, and in all ways which will be beneficial to my future.
