monologue
Once upon a time on the messy streets of elephantown lived a young penguin. This penguin was far from ordinary; she has unusual aspects that make her different from the rest of her pack. For example, unlike everyone else, this penguin has lived in the same igloo her entire life. She has never had the urge to migrate. This igloo is indeed her home. However, what really makes this penguin unique is her love for sports. Although she does not look like the sporty type, she is somewhat a tomboy at heart. Her passion for baseball is undiscovered because she is unable to find other female penguins who share the same interest as her. On the other hand, she loves the shock on peoples’ faces when the opportunity to talk about baseball appears. Her love is what defines her. She is committed to what she is passionate about.

“Who Do You Think You Are?”
I am a quiet and reserved person. However, once you get to know me, I am very outgoing and friendly. Although I am Asian, I do not follow the Asian stereotype; I hate math and science. As a freshman, I am concerned about the change from high school to college. I know there will be a lot more work and readings. Therefore, I have to devote more time into studying in order to do well. I am also concerned with the environment. For the first semester, we have chosen a certain block which contains people that are in majority of our classes. I have to learn to start conversations with others and get to know everyone. After all, we are stuck together until December. A final concern I have is choosing classes by myself when the first semester ends. I want to make sure that I do what’s best for me because there isn’t really anyone to guide me anymore. So far, I think what makes my Baruch College experience different from my high school experience is the schedule. Unlike high school, classes are scattered everywhere. You yourself have to remember which building your class is in and which elevator takes you to a certain floor. In addition, you do not have the same class everyday. Therefore, you have to remember what you learned from the day before. It takes a lot more work and concentration to do well in college compared to high school. My first year at college will change me because I have become more independent. I have to rely on myself and make sure I get to school and complete all the assignments. There isn’t anyone to remind you what time classes start, yet alone force you to do anything. The only person stopping you from succeeding is yourself.
