Multimedia Presentation

Starting out a blank 4×6 piece of paper, a set of hands tapes down all four of its corners to a wooden background. The paper gains a few pencil markings: in forms of pentagons, trapezoids, a horizontal line. Houses are formed. Color is added; the houses are now developed. And soon enough, a sky hovering over the main subjects, is too.

In my first unit, my paper talks about a video, called Simple Watercolor Houses. It’s an art tutorial on painting, and rather than with instructions, it simply shows you what the artist is doing. Here, section one analyzes it, from the painting process, to the way the video was edited. The artist uses shades of blue all throughout, creating a monochrome look. This color scheme gives off an uncomplicated appearance, complimenting the title of the video: simple. There is no talking, only instrumental music in the background, and the filming is sped up. The whole tutorial is under six minutes. You can tell this activity is what the creator enjoys doing, and showing this activity to her channel’s subscribers is a side hobby.

Uploaded on a large platform, it reaches a large number of viewers. In the second portion of my paper, I mentioned the effect such videos can have on its audiences. This artifact is easily accessible to anyone on the Web. It can introduce newcomers to a new activity. In relation to this, I mentioned how I got into additional art media, thanks to the Internet. What can appear to simply, another short video, can also serve as a beckoning into a certain field of art.

The third portion of my paper shifts to the mention, of the effects the Internet has, on the arts industry. The Internet is a tool, a tool that can expand one’s audience. Here, I mention a new platform on which artworks are featured: a computer screen. I also add on an economic perspective, where the industry becomes more globalized. The online presence of markets, whether on art auctions or jewelry, allows it to open up to a wider range of consumers, from all over.

Overall, the introduction of the Internet has had a positive effect on the arts.
