Blog 7: Hang to Dry

Dear Peer Review Group,

I would like to thank you for all the help you have offered me throughout the semester. I appreciate how meticulously you read my writing, catching all of my silly grammatical errors, helping me to proofread. I enjoyed hearing all the differing perspectives giving me suggestions on what to change, what to take out, what to rearrange, and what to add. The varying points of view you provided as readers helped me to get an understanding of what my writing meant for different readers, which is a powerful tool, allowing me to get my point across to the reader in more concise way with every editing session. As a writer, I have an idea in my head that i want to pass along to the reader, but like a game of telephone, the idea is not always clear when put into words. By making these alterations from the advice of my group members, my ideas and those of the readers become more closely related. I also appreciated and greatly appreciate the professionalism exemplified by my group members.

Our group would get straight down to the point, taking turns, giving each other the honest advice we needed to succeed. By getting down to business we always were able to share all of our points and finish first. I love how we did not make fun of or ridicule one another or the writing pieces, but rather handled ourselves in a professional manner, like real editors. My peer reviewers have taught me that my writing needs much re-reading for proofreading/editing purposes as well as revising and restructuring. I tend to focus on getting my ideas out on paper when writing which helps get every little detail but using this method my writing is often unorganized and unclear and rereading and having others read it benefits greatly. Professor Graves helped me extract the specific information I needed from my own mind, by helping me look at points I make from multiple perspectives and asking me thought provoking questions to add details. I would like to continue my writing process perhaps by brainstorming to get ideas out on paper and outlining my writing rather than beginning right away to have my ideas in order as well as presented in an orderly fashion. I have learned much about my old childhood favorite show.

I had no idea how important it was back in my family’s mother country to help escape from the mundane and mechanized way of life in the USSR. I was also unaware of how much propaganda and controversy were abundant in the show and it related so much to me, especially since a protagonist was theorized to symbolize Jewish people in a negative way. My final plans are to expand on the rhetoric and evidence I have discovered in my research as well as include more details on my personal accounts to tie up the piece. If I had to write more I would probably include an account of Soviet life and try to give more background on Soviet or Communist ideology. In the future, I plan to continue developing my writing to progress in college and in all aspects of life. Writing is necessary no matter where I go and I plan to use it to enrich myself. I hope you guys continue developing your writing as I see much potential and continue asking peers for advice. Our papers would not be where they are now had it not been for one another. I wish you all luck in academic excellence.

Sincerely,

Leon Yablonovskiy

  1. Your paper brought back a lot of memories for me from my childhood and I could relate to your paper from the beginning. It was great to talk to someone about one of my favorite Russian cartoons. You had a really well developed paper.

  2. Dear Leon,

It was great working with you and your writing this semester. It was interesting how you provided perspective both from yourself and your grandparents. I wish you the best of luck in the future.

    Best,
    Harrison
