To briefly summarize our first unit writing, the essay was based on a rhetorical analysis form of writing. With rhetorical analysis, the writer explains a certain topic and goes into great detail. By choosing specific moments within a piece of literature and analyzing to the most specific moment. With rhetorical analysis the author lays out why certain ideas take place and how it is significant to the story. With my cultural artifact, Naruto, I analyzed how the art style, appearance of the characters, and the actions of the characters played a significant part in the story and how it helps the audience understand what is taking place in the anime.
The anime, Naruto, is heavily based on friendship. So, a theme that is related to friendship would be that it’s worth going a long way to hold on to a bond with a friend. A friendship that means deeply to someone and teaches so much about oneself, it’s hard to let go of something like that. Within the anime, Naruto Uzumaki goes to extreme lengths to keep his friend Sasuke Uchiha beside him. Through their friendship, Naruto sees himself becoming a better ninja and both of them becoming stronger as a result of their rivalry. Seeing Sasuke more than a friend, Naruto would do whatever it takes to keep Sasuke alongside him.
The genres that best identifies Naruto are action and adventure. For a show that revolves around these genres, a trope that identifies from my artifact would be the change of environment and art style once a hero arrives or when a villain is defeated. For any form of literature that is based off action and adventure, the arrival of a major protagonist creating a shift in the tone is commonly used. In Naruto, as soon as the hero appears in battle it creates a sense of hope within the audience. The changing in art style helps predict the outcome of the fight. Also, by defeating a villain it also creates the same shift in tone. With these tropes it helps the development of the story and makes the viewers clearly understand what is happening.
A common phrase used within Naruto is “the way of a ninja”. The use of this quote is to explain how a ninja must act during the time of battle. However, it can be used in a moral standpoint. Naruto uses the phrase to determine his way of life and how to become someone that is respected by his peers and the people of his village.
An experience in my life that is closely related to my cultural artifact is my relationship with my close friend. The decision he makes can be associated with the actions of Sasuke. The way I react and confront my friend is very similar to Naruto. The clash between our friendship causes a drift between us, but it’s still something that it is worth fighting for. To better my friend and our relationship, conflict is needed to make sure that our friendship doesn’t come to an end.
