A few discourse communities I consider myself a member of are the following: New Yorker, Italian, Polish, College Student, Male, White, Gym Enthusiast, and Gamer. The discourse community that would most likely have a connection to my artifact would be New Yorkers. New Yorkers would agree on the fact that A Bronx Tale is a great depiction of the New York identity as well as a great film, overall. New Yorkers would be reminded of the many struggles and benefits that come with living in New York. I would agree with them, and intern discuss my personal relationship to the film with them. I would be able to find a story in my own life that relates to the movie. I would tell them how the movie has impacted my decision making as I grew up, helping me to think like Calogero and follow his ideals as well as apply them to my own life.

Someone outside of the discourse community would need to understand the plot and underlying themes in the film. Specifically, they would need to recognize the theme “your actions effect your life forever” and the underlying concept of “unconditional love” present in A Bronx Tale. As I have grown up, I have understood what being a New Yorker really means and have learned where to love it and hate it. An example of this is a simple traffic jam in NYC, which is a microcosm for the fast-paced life of a typical New Yorker.
