RIO DE JANEIRO. – Judgment day for Luiz Inició Lula da Silva is getting closer, in fact, much closer. For the first time the Brazilian authorities, that are investigating the multimillionaire corruption case in Petrobras, yesterday formally accused the highly influential ex-president of Brazil (2003-2010) of being the main leader of the vast graft scheme that ruled over the national oil company.
“Lula was the chief commander in the corruption scheme in Petrobras”, noted Deltan Dallagnol, lead prosecutor of the so-called Operation Lava Jato, during a press conference in Curitiba, where investigations have been concentrated for a little over two years, and have shaken Brazil’s political and business world.
