Metaphors You Live By

Stanley Tsizin

The themes that I would associate my first unit writing with is friendship vs. strangeness and good vs. evil. I believe that friendship vs. strangeness is one of the themes because in my writing I stated how Cheburashka could not make any friends due to the fact that he was different from others and was considered strange.  However, he ended up making a friend who liked him for who he was and did not judge him. Good vs. evil is also a theme in my writing because I stated how during communism everyone in the Soviet Union was forced to be the same and anyone who was different was considered strange however, in the United States everyone could be the person they want and nobody judged. The tropes I identify from my writing are personification and metaphor.  Cheburashka represents communism and can serve as a metaphor for strangeness. I have went through the same struggles as Cheburashka when I was a child such as not being able to make friends because I was different from others.
