Metaphors you live by

I personally found the unit pretty difficult. I had to really analyze and search for hidden messages within the lyrics of the song I chose to write about. Analyzing the way the song was made, the tempo, and keys used wasn’t easy either. There are so many factors in a song that can affect emotion. I also had to look into the singer and her purpose for writing the song, and the historical context behind it. Although it was somewhat difficult, I enjoyed digging deeper and deeper into the song to find the information perfect for my writing. A theme I would associate my artifact with is anti-violence, because of the historical context behind this song and the violence that inspired it. The tropes I would identify in rock songs are, guitar solos, growly voices, and yelling. These are all very common in rock songs and can all be found in my artifact. This song is a metaphor for the injustice that is war and the pain that it causes. The experiences that informed my analysis of this artifact were the stories told to me by my great grandmother about my great grandfather after he served in a war. She would always go into detail about how it changed him and how the effect managed to effect not just him but his family as well.
