Left ventricle calcification

By Gabriel Perez Baztarrica, Fabio Sanchez and Rafael Porcile

Cardiac calcifications occur habitually in the valves, the sinus and atrioventricular node, coronary arteries and rarely in the ventricular myocardium as a consequence of a previous heart attack. The last few are associated with complications, among which are heart failure, systemic embolisms and arrhythmias.

This is an exceptional case of a serious myocardial calcification associated with heart failure refractory to medical treatment.

This is a 58 year old patient with a history of previous myocardial infarction progressing to dilated cardiomyopathy necrosis (a 10% ejection fraction of the left ventricle) with multiple hospitalizations for heart failure. He was admitted in our hospital for another comprehensive picture of overall heart failure refractory to medical treatment (inotropic and IABP). Both chest radiography and coronary angiography (right oblique view) show that a thick calcified ventricular wall is evident to the anterior and lateral level and the tip of the heart. (constant- arrows)

The patient was referred to another center for an evaluation for a heart transplant.

“Handy Spanish-English and English-Spanish Dictionary”

1. This dictionary is very authoritative. In fact, it is said to be “compiled from the best authorities of both languages.” Therefore this dictionary has been written by many people. The publisher is Hinds, Hayden and Eldredge, originally from the University of Michigan. This publisher is not very reputable because it has only published 5 works in the early 1900s.

  • The downside to this dictionary is its age. It was published in 1912.
  • It is available in both electronic form and print.
  • It is distributed and cited internationally given that it is free and in the public domain on google.

2.       Since this dictionary has a chapter on abbreviations and correct pronunciations, this dictionary would be useful to a student learning Spanish. It would also be useful to someone who is fluent and is teaching Spanish.  In the end it has a list of the most remarkable geographical names that differ in the two languages. Therefore it would also be useful to a tourist who is traveling to a Spanish speaking country.

3.      Aburrido- weary, which means exhausting mentally or physically ( the only HANDY definition for aburrido)

Aburrido-  boring, uninspiring  (according to linguee)

Terrateniente– not available in the handy dictionary

Terrateniente– landowner, landlord (linguee definition)

Given that aburrido does not have the exact same definition as linguee and it only means weary according to the Handy dictionary, I would say this dictionary is not very relevant for contemporary usage. The word terrateniente does not even exist in the handy dictionary from 1912, so this dictionary is of purely historic interest.

4.      The dictionary is fairly user friendly, given the help with pronunciation and common abbreviations. However since it was published over a century ago the words are a tad bit blurry and hard to read. You have to scroll through a lot of pages online to find your word and the search index does not function properly or takes a very long time. Definitions are mostly one word definitions, with no synonyms.

Translating U.N. Security Council resolution vs. Marketing campaigns por Kreshnik Duka

When a translator is assigned a marketing campaign to advertise to the public, one always has to consider who the selected audience is. This is where localization plays a major role in translation. The translator makes a total adaptation to the specific regional area the advertisement is intended for. Localization is something recent, brought up by globalization. Translating a marketing campaign can be less formal. The point of the advertisement is to stick the product of your company into the minds of consumers. It can be a catchy phrase, song or message that will grasp the attention of the public.

Translating a United Nations Security Council resolution is completely different from a marketing campaign. Globalization and Englishnization become relevant when translating for the United Nations. In fact, the United Nations has its own Multilingual Terminology Database online. As opposed to marketing campaigns, United Nations resolutions are much more strict and professional in their public announcements. The goal is not to sell a product or service, but to establish an agreement amongst all relevant countries. However, both U.N. resolutions and marketing campaigns want their message to stick.

Campaña publicitaria “Ene Be A” Por Kreshnik Duka

Eso anuncio es dirigido por los americanos y los hispanohablantes en el mundo también. Los nombres de los jerseys son escritos en
español. Los jerseys están hablando en inglés pero la música de fondo tiene un ritmo latino. Eso anuncio quiere que la gente compra esos jerseys para “Noche Latina” y reconocer los aficionados al baloncesto latino en todo el mundo. Los jugadores también llevan esos jerseys cuando juegan en Noche Latina.

Homer Simpson Joins in on ‘Selfie’ por Kreshnik Duka

Matt Groening, creator of ‘The Simpsons’ accepts Ellen DeGeneres idea to create her own version with classical black humor.

By Pablo Scarpellini | El Mundo (Los Angeles) | March 5, 2014

The historic ‘selfie’ that Ellen DeGeneres uploaded during the Oscars ceremony continues to make headlines. It has been the topic of debate on television programs, news and radio stations, an irrepressible party which included the creator of ‘The Simpsons’ who used the photo for Bradley Cooper, Meryl Streep, Julia Roberts, Jennifer Lawrence and company in order to recreate the scene with Homer Simpson on her.

The same people appear in his drawing as well as the father of the Springfield family being kicked by Cooper while partaking in the photo, in order to add a characteristic of the black humor from the mythical Fox series. The photo was also uploaded on Twitter with the idea of continuing the trending of “retweets”, something that DeGeneres started on Sunday, beating a record with more than 3 million retweets.

The popular image has not only been recreated by Groening. There is also a version with Lego puppets circulating the web, in addition to many other replicas like the one that DeGeneres shared with her followers of some children suffering from cancer, with the same pose that the stars from Hollywood did in the Dolby Theater of Los Angeles.

Argentina Off to a Good Start por Kreshnik Duka

La Nacion (Buenos Aires) | Thursday, July 26, 2012

London.- Argentinas national womens field hockey team Las Leonas, the reigning champions, today defeated 1-0 their Chinese counterparts, Beijing 2008 Olympic Games silver medalists, in their second friendly match in London before their debut at the Olympic Games against South Africa.

The only goal was scored by defender Noel Barrionuevo, off a short corner, at the 10 minute mark of the second half.

“We played well. I was satisfied with the performance of my team. China wanted to play behind closed doors, so then we tried simulate what we are going to do on Sunday in the debut with South Africa” said coach Carlos Retegui, after the meeting.
