Washington, D.C. — We’ve recently been experiencing record-breaking cold across much of the United States. Though temperatures have risen in the past few days, winter is just beginning and we need to prepare for the frigid weather ahead.
In fact, doctors say that icy temperatures can present a health risk. “It’s best to limit outdoor activity, since prolonged exposure to the cold can lead to frostbite or hypothermia,” said Dr. John Marshall, Chair of Emergency Medicine at Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn. “Both conditions can be serious or even life-threatening if left untreated.”
