Este commercial de la campaña BWM Passat is targeted for Americans. The location is at some city in the United States. It is clear that message given is  Spanish and English are so important to advance in this country and all Americans should make the effort to learn the language.

  1. Hi Julissa, I think the observation Adrian made when he noted that Volkswagen (not BMW) is a German company is on target here. The Germans, who are almost all at least bilingual, and many of whom speak three or more languages, are poking fun at the famous reluctance of anglophone Americans to learn foreign languages. Remember: the passenger’s reaction when he hears the language tape is not at all happy!

    I’m not sure the ad conveys that Spanish is important. If the ad ended in an important conversation with a Spanish speaker, I might agree. But here the two men use their newly-acquired Spanish to say completely trivial things. The point seems to be that everything becomes easy with this car, even something generally considered difficult, like learning a foreign language.
