La Traducción humana y la traducción mecánica – Samantha Persaud

A)    Original

Se abre la ‘bolsa de idiomas’ para jóvenes de entre 18 y 30 años (eldiariomontanes.es)

Los jóvenes de entre 18 y 30 años que quieran mejorar sus conocimientos de inglés, francés, italiano y alemán están de enhorabuena. Y es que el Ayuntamiento de Santander y la Asociación Aegee ha puesto en marcha de nuevo la ‘Bolsa de idiomas’, un proyecto para el aprendizaje a través del intercambio de jóvenes de distintos países.

B)    Human Translation

A Bag of Languages open for those between the ages of 18 and 30

For those between the ages of 18 and 30 who want to improve their knowledge of English, French, Italian, and German this is a good time. The City Council of Santander and the Aegee Association has launched the new “Bag of languages,” a project for learning through the exchange between young people from different places.

C)   Mechanic Translation by Google Translate

The ‘bag languages’ opens for young people between 18 and 30

Young people between 18 and 30 who want to improve their knowledge of English, French, Italian and German are in luck. And the city of Santander and Aegee Association has launched again ‘Language Exchange’, a project for learning through the exchange of young people from different countries.

D)   Analysis

I definitely think that google translates with a more word for word translation rather than taking the big picture.  The feeling is lost and therefore making it feel very mechanic and automated. And in some way the point trying to be made gets lost or may not make the same impact or effect it had originally done in Spanish. In some way if I was to see this article in an American newspaper with the version of the google translate, to me it would sound fake or something not worth my time.
