As a part of our CSR activities, we will conduct the 30th Pasona International Exchange Program, a summer internship program that started in 1988 in which students from U.S.A., China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Indonesia and Vietnam come to Japan during their summer vacation and intern at Japanese companies. We aim to cultivate personnel who can work in the global arena with an open mind by offering a place to experience Japanese business and culture to those who otherwise may not have an opportunity to come to Japan.
About the Pasona International Exchange Program
The Pasona International Exchange Program began when Pasona Group CEO Yasuyuki Nambu met American students who wished to gain experience at Japanese companies that lead the business world. At the time, Japan was about to reach the peak of the “economic bubble”. It was a time when management at Japanese companies was gathering attention and respect throughout the world under the phrase “Japan as number one”. However, at the same time economic friction between Japan and the United States was rising, and so-called “Japan bashing” was spreading.
With the goal of promoting mutual understanding between the two countries at the personal level and true globalization, we became the first to introduce the widely-practiced Western internship system to Japan for Harvard University graduate students.
Afterwards, we opened the program to include university students from all over the United States, and when the program reached its 20th anniversary in 2007, we opened the door to students from China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. From 2013, the program was expanded to include students from Indonesia and Vietnam. Overall, 446 interns and about 130 host companies have participated in the program. After graduation, the interns utilize their experiences to step into the global field, working at both Japanese companies and places such as international governmental and academic institutions.
