Due to signs of opioid intoxication and imminence of respiratory failure, airway support and naloxone treatment were initiated. During emergency care, the patient indicated localized precordial pain of moderate to severe intensity, without dysautonomia or dyspnea. Faced with the possibility of acute coronary syndrome, a troponin I test was requested initially resulting in 0.48 ng/ml (reference value= 0-0.3 ng/ml). The initial electrocardiogram revealed ST segment elevation in the anterolateral part of the face (Fig. 2). The electrocardiogram results ruled out abnormalities. Given the clinical and biochemical findings, acute myocardial infarction of Type II ST segment elevation, Killip-Kimball I, was diagnosed, for which the use vasodilator with low doses of intravenous nitroglycerin, dual antiplatelet therapy (clopidogrel and aspirin), and full anticoagulation with low molecular weight heparin were initiated.

The revised dictionary, Diccionario-guía de traducción espanol-ingéls, inglés-espanol, was published in 2009 with a mission to rectify any previous deficiencies, clarify explanations, and provide more appropriate examples of usage, and to even up to some extent both sections (Spanish-English, English-Spanish), which were unequal in the prior publication (A Spanish-English, English-Spanish Translation Companion for Spanish Leaners of English :published in 1996). Due to its complete recasting and recent publication, it can be inferred that one can rely on its purpose and functions. In Catalonia, Spain, the University of Barcelona published this new handbook dictionary. Brian Mott and Marta Mateo are the authors of the new version. Both authors are lecturers in English at the Universities of Barcelona and Oviedo, respectively. Brian Mott’s interest centers in studying phonetics, phonology, translation, and dialectology while Marta Mateo’s area of expertise is English philology. Not only does the revised version continues to serve as a learning tool for Spanish learners of English, but also aims at English learners of Spanish (the English-Spanish part includes new entries, hoping that it will be found useful for the English learners of Spanish). The dictionary has an electronic version and it is the replica of its printed version. The term that I looked for in this dictionary was “productos pirotecnicos= fuegos artificiales,” which is translated as “fireworks” in English. Comparing this new handbook to another Spanish-English, English-Spanish dictionary, Random House Spanish-English, English-Spanish Dictionary by Margaret H. Raventós and David L. Gold, I found the same exact translation (fuegos artificiales=fireworks). The following projects of translation can get a well use of this dictionary: 1) Traducción de una campaña publicitaria and 2) Análisis de materias de mercadeo y publicidad en español y inglés. These two projects can benefit from the function of this dictionary as both written materials in advertising ads and the dictionary provide a basic level of comprehension (from the consumer and the language leaner, respectively).

Mi entrada al mundo literario fue tanto inesperado como no planeado. Tenía treinta y dos años  y nunca había publicado nada en ninguna parte. No sólo sabía muy poco sobre la escena literaria de Guatemala, sino sabía aún menos sobre Guatemala en general. Yo salí del país en 1981 -en el día de mi décimo cumpleaños- con mis padres, mi hermano y mi hermana, crecí en Florida y luego estudié ingeniería en Carolina del Norte. En el colegio siempre fui bueno con las matemáticas. Nunca leia libros ni siquiera me gustaban. Finalmente regresé a Guatemala en 1993, a un país que apenas conocía y con un conocimiento mínimo de español después de haber pasado más de doce años en los Estados Unidos. Empecé a trabajar como ingeniero en la empresa constructora de mi padre y poco a poco empecé a encontrar mi camino de regreso al país y a mi lengua materna pero siempre estaba perjudicado por un sentimiento extremo de frustración o desubicación, un sentido de no pertenecer. Hoy entiendo que esta angustia existencial es más o menos normal a esa edad justo después de la universidad pero en aquel entonces me sentí como un hombre sin país, sin lenguaje, sin profesión propia (yo estaba literalmente en la de mi padre), sin un sentido de quién era yo o lo que yo tenía que hacer. Esto duró durante los próximos cinco años y sólo empeoró. Hasta que finalmente decidí buscar ayuda. Pero mi definición de ayuda, siendo un ingeniero racional y metódico, fue buscar respuestas no en la psicología ni incluso en la religión, sino en la filosofía. Fui a una de las universidades locales, la Universidad Rafael Landívar, y pregunté si podía matricularme en un par de cursos de filosofía pensando que tal vez allí iba a encontrar algún tipo de respuesta. Pero en Guatemala, así como en gran parte de Latinoamérica, es una sola carrera: Letras y Filosofía. Si quieres estudiar una, tienes que estudiar la otra. Y así lo hice. En pocas semanas me había apasionado con la literatura. En menos de un año había dejado mi trabajo como ingeniero, y estaba viviendo de mis ahorros y leyendo ficción a tiempo completo, un libro cada uno o dos días como un tipo de adicto a la literatura.

In the business world, values can be used as a tool to persuade a particular group of consumers to buy the product/service. Both commercials illustrate how a population that is generally known to be individualistic (English commercial targeting an American audience) and a population that is viewed to have collectivism morals (Spanish commercial targeting a Hispanic crowd) hold different types of values.

The commercial in English clearly demonstrates the mentality of an individualistic society as the value heavily weighs on the importance in looking after and taking care of oneself (obtain immediate assistance in a case of emergency or situation.) The general message the commercial conveys is security and the accessibility to that security. This is parallel to the ideology of being self-reliant in individualistic cultures as people tend to be concerned with self-centered values and self-sufficiency (being self-sufficient in an individualistic culture is viewed to guarantee the well-being of the society/group.)

While people in individualistic cultures tend to distance themselves psychologically and emotionally from each other, the well-being of others is highly valued in collectivism societies, so considering the needs and feelings of others are important. The commercial in Spanish represents this harmonic and interdependence view as family dynamics are emphasized: Parents go together as a family to drop off their daughter at her college; father goes back to give his daughter one more hug displaying affection and interdependent view of the self as part of a larger social network that includes one’s family.

Today the South American Women’s Volleyball Championship began. Venezuela is Peru’s first rival in Group A, which also includes Colombia and Uruguay. Only two teams will advance to the semifinals, and whether they like it or not, they will have to fight from the beginning.
Once again, Peru reaches a tournament with talented misfits. Although this is a tournament, for this South American Women’s Volleyball Championship there are only five team players in the adult category (Uribe, Yllescas, Egoavil, Muñoz, and Olemar).
The other nine players are either U18 (Regalado, De la Peña, Guerrero y Sánchez) or U20 (Leyva, Gómez, Canessa, Almeida). With a universe limited in qualified volleyball players, this is a reality that coaches must face in almost all national volleyball categories (especially the adult category).

Chile levantó alerta de tsunami el jueves y las Islas del Pacifico sufrieron solamente olas menores, horas después de que un terremonto de magnitud 8,3  había provocado temores de olas masivas.

“La alerta de tsunami está levantada para el entero territorio national”, dijo la Oficina National de Emergencia del Govierno chileno en un tweet.

El Centro de Alerta de Tsunamis del Pacifico emitió un mensaje de advertencia informando que se pronosticaba ondas de tsunami peligrosas para algunas costas. “Las ondas de tsunami han sido observadas”, dijo en el ultimo aviso el jueves.

El Centro de Alerta de Tsunamis del Pacifico, PTWC, dijo que las primeras olas estaban llegando al pueblo de Rikitea en la Ilsa de Mangareva de Polinesia Francesa pero eran solamente 28 centímetros de altura. Sucedió en las tempranas horas de la mañana en Rikitea incicando que pocas personas estarían en las playas.

Yo utilize Reverso para la traducción automática. Los aspectos que me llamaman la atención son como se tradujeron las palabras “firmaba” y “conocida” y la posición donde se colocó el nombre del director, Andrew Jackeri. Las palabras “firmaba” y “conocida” se tradujeron a “filmed” y “familiar” respectivamente. Sin embargo la traducción automática las tradujó en una manera que el contexto no fué considerado. Esto es paralelo con lo que Bellos dice en Is that a Fish in Your Ear?: “A translation machine would need to strip away from the actual expression in language A all that is “code,” so as to access the real thing that it encodes, namely, the actual, irreducible, plain, and basic meaning of the expression.” El nombre, Andrew Jackeri, no hubiera sido traducido en la misma manera como lo hubiera traducido un traductor humano porque, en contraste al traductor humano, la traducción automática no tiene un conocimiento basico de las transposiciones regulares entre los dos lenguajes. Esto se refleja en las siguientes palabras de Bellos “adjectives following a noun in French will need to be put in front of the equivalent English noun…” Aunque la traducción automática tiene sus desventajas, también tiene sus ventajas. Kelly y Zetzsche dicen en Found in Translation que la traducción automática les convienen a las compañias de manufactura y industrales que tienen documentación “that often has a high degree of predictable structure and repeated terms and phrases.” Otro beneficio es que en situaciones urgentes donde se exije una traducción rapida, la traducción automática toma un papel importante. Sin embargo la traducción automática siempre va a necesitar ayuda de traductores humanos asi como lo  enfatizan Kelly y Zetzsche  en su libro, “And as long as translation exists—even if it someday becomes more fully automated—it will always require the skills, talent, and expertise of human specialists.”

The president of Univision, Randy Falco, affirmed today that the Republican candidate to the White House for 2016, Donald Trump, disrespected the journalist, Jorge Ramos, and the Hispanic community.

In a press release, Falco referred to the tense incident that occurred yesterday at a press conference for the candidate in Iowa, in which Ramos and Trump engaged in a war of words and the journalist was expelled momentarily from the room, although he was permitted to return afterwards.

“The recent treatment that Jorge Ramos received at the press conference of Mr. Trump in Iowa was despicable. As a presidential candidate, Trump will receive uncomfortable questions from the press and he must respond to them,” indicated the president of the channel.
