Dr Charles Montgomery is the builder and original owner of the house. He is a character in the first season (dubbed by fans “Murder House“) portrayed by Matt Ross.
A prominent “surgeon to the stars”, Charles built the famous Murder House in 1922 for his wife Nora Montgomery. Although quite successful in the beginning, it is apparent that he began to lose business. He is described as having developed a gruesome “Frankenstein Complex”, wherein he stitched the assorted body parts of animals together.

From IMDB–When the tour guide was talking about Doctor Charles Montgomery, he mentioned that the doctor had ‘Frankenstein Complex’. This comment was probably made in regards of the doctor’s obsession with dissection. However, this was a wrong usage of the term because the real medical definition of ‘Frankenstein Complex’ is: the fear that one day artificial intelligence will replace human beings
