Organized by the Kyoto International Manga Museum in 2015 and traveling abroad for the first time, this exhibition commemorated the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II. This is a rare opportunity to view 24 principal Japanese manga works on the theme of a war, along with original paintings and drawings by several manga authors. This traveling exhibition is made possible in collaboration with Ramapo College Galleries and supported by the Japan Foundation.

‘Kyoto Inspiration’ is a special new program providing participants with insights into how Kyoto’s traditional culture has provided a base, nurture and inspiration for innovations in past and present-day Japan’s popular media and arts. Drawing from a wide spectrum of interrelated sources, we will build an overview of how ongoing creative, social, aesthetic, spiritual and worldly influences from Kyoto’s past have contributed to shaping present-day popular media and culture, including manga, anime, fashion, and game development.

Cultural Vistas Fellowship
The Cultural Vistas Fellowship affords underrepresented U.S. university students the unique opportunity to advance their career goals, develop global competencies, and experience life in another culture. Cultural Vistas will select up to 12 fellows to take part in a multinational professional development program that includes an eight-week summer internship in Argentina, Germany, or India. The theme for summer 2017 is Civic Engagement and Youth Involvement.
The fellowship is fully funded and will include: program-related round-trip travel expense; travel to New York City for pre-departure and re-entry seminars; internship placement in Argentina, Germany, or India; accommodations throughout program; virtual learning seminar; pre-departure support services; cultural orientation upon arrival in host country; visa application support; and emergency medical insurance during internship phase.
Eligibility: Applicants must be U.S. citizens enrolled full-time at a four-year accredited U.S. college or university, between the age of 18-30, and a rising junior or senior with a minimum GPA of 3.0. Candidates should have no formal prior work or study abroad experiences and have proficiency in the host country language for Germany and Argentina. English is suitable for the program to India.

The Japanese Division at Hunter College is excited to invite you to an “Awaji Ningyo Joruri (Japanese traditional puppet show) event. As Kawnko san had mentioned, this event was initiated and is going to be funded by the Japanese government. We hope you and your student can join us!

Full Scholarships Available for Intensive Language Study at the Middlebury Summer Language Schools– The Kathryn Davis Fellows for Peace will cover the full cost of one summer of language study (tuition, room, and board)—from the beginner to graduate level—in any of the eleven languages offered: Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Hebrew, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Spanish and Russian. The Middlebury Language Schools celebrated its Centennial in 2015. Our website has more information on all eleven Language Schools, the Language Pledge®, activities and the online application. Middlebury’s Arabic, Italian, and Korean programs take place exclusively at our West Coast Site at Mills College in Oakland, California.
