Dr. Akiko Yamanaka’s Talk at LaGuardia

To the Members of the Japan-Studies Community in New York,

My name is Robin Kietlinski, and I am an assistant professor of Japanese/Asian/Global History at LaGuardia Community College. I am pleased to announce that LaGuardia Community College will be hosting a talk next FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 1st from noon-1pm in Room E-111 by Dr. Akiko Yamanaka, Former Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs and a former Member of Japan’s House of Representatives. She is currently Senior Visiting Scholar at Churchill College and Senior Diplomatic Fellow at the University of Cambridge. Dr. Yamanaka will be discussing Prime Minister Abe’s new initiatives aimed at increasing female participation in the workforce in Japan, and at empowering Japanese women more generally.

Please do not miss this rare opportunity for you and/or your students to hear one of Japan’s highest-ranking female politicians speak on issues of global socio-economic importance. I am attaching a flier advertising the event, and ask that you please distribute it to students, colleagues, and friends who may be interested in attending. The event is free and open to the public. Do not hesitate to contact me with any questions, and I hope to see you at this exciting event.
