SHASHIN: PHOTOGRAPHY FROM JAPAN is a multi-institution program aimed to raise awareness of photography from Japan in New York, foster an exchange, and stimulate discussion in multiple segments: Academics, students, art collectors, researchers, artists, photographers, Japanophiles, and the general public of New York City.

The festival’s main event is a two-day symposium held inside the New York Public Library with the following panels and artists’ presentations:

Friday, April 24th, 12pm-6pm

Panel A. For a New World to Come: Experiments in Japanese Art and Photography, 1968–1979 (Chair & Moderator: Yasufumi Nakamori, the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston)

The Shashin: Photography from Japan fesitival and symposium is organized by The Council for Photography from Japan along with The New York Public Library and the International Center of Photography (ICP).

The symposium is free and open to the public, but registration is required.
