Earthquake in Chile Leaves Eleven Dead, a Million Evacuees, and Million in Damages

(EFE/14ymedio). -The death toll caused in the northern Chile Wednesday nightstands at eleven, according to Ricardo Toro, director of Chile’s National Emergency Office (ONEMI). To this casualties there were also nine people injured, one missing person, one million of people evacuated and millions of dollars in damages.

The quake – the third strongest in the history of this troubled nation, where the major earthquake recorded in 1960 – it occurred at 7:54 local time. Its epicenter was located about 28 miles west of the northern town of Canela and 9.7 miles deep.

The force of the quake determined that the Hydrographic and Oceanographic Service of the Navy gave the tsunami warning for the entire Chilean coast, more than 4,000 kilometers in length, so the authorities ordered the immediate evacuation.
